LB Wire Ropes provides lifting equipment inspection, testing and certification services from our Girraween facility in Western Sydney and on-site at customer locations.
As a Full Member of LEEA (Lifting Equipment Engineers Association), we inspect a wide range of lifting and rigging equipment, identify defects and provide repair, testing and documentation services where required. Our Girraween facility includes in-house proof load testing capability up to 150 tonnes.

If you are unsure whether we can inspect a particular item of lifting equipment, contact our team to discuss the equipment and its application.
On-Site Lifting Equipment Inspection
LB Wire Ropes provides on-site lifting equipment inspections, allowing equipment to be inspected where it is used or stored. This can assist businesses managing larger lifting equipment inventories or multiple assets requiring periodic inspection.
Equipment is assessed for relevant signs of wear, damage, deformation or other conditions that may affect its suitability for continued service. Equipment requiring further attention can be identified for repair, replacement or additional testing.
We can also assist with equipment identification, inspection records, asset registers and scheduling future inspections.
Inspection, Repair & Testing
Identifying a defect is only part of managing lifting equipment.
Where appropriate, LB Wire Ropes can provide a complete process covering:
Inspect → Identify → Repair or Replace → Test → Document → Return to Service
Our combination of inspection, workshop, manufacturing and testing capabilities means equipment identified during an inspection can be assessed for repair or replacement without customers needing to coordinate multiple suppliers.
Where equipment cannot be economically or safely repaired, our team can assist with specifying and supplying suitable replacement equipment.
Proof Load Testing up to 150 Tonnes
LB Wire Ropes provides in-house proof load testing up to 150 tonnes at our Girraween facility in Western Sydney.
Proof load testing may be required for certain lifting equipment following manufacture, repair or modification, or where required by the applicable standard, manufacturer or inspection criteria.
Our testing capability supports both equipment manufactured by LB Wire Ropes and suitable customer-owned lifting equipment requiring testing.
Test records and documentation are provided as applicable to the work undertaken.
How Often Should Lifting Equipment Be Inspected?
There is no single inspection interval that applies to all lifting equipment.
Inspection frequency depends on the type of equipment, its application, frequency of use, operating environment, manufacturer requirements and the relevant Australian Standards or other inspection requirements.
Equipment exposed to frequent use, harsh environments, damage or safety-critical applications may require inspection more frequently than equipment operating occasionally under controlled conditions.
Inspection requirements should therefore be determined for the particular equipment and its conditions of use rather than applying a single inspection interval to all lifting equipment.
LB Wire Ropes can assist customers in establishing an appropriate inspection schedule for their lifting equipment.
Who Can Inspect Lifting Equipment?
Lifting equipment should be inspected by a person who is competent to inspect the particular type of equipment and undertake the inspection required.
There is no single qualification that establishes competency for every type of lifting equipment or inspection. Competency may be demonstrated through a combination of relevant training, qualifications, licences, technical knowledge and practical experience.
LB Wire Ropes is a Full Member of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). Our inspectors are selected and developed based on the competencies required for the equipment and work they undertake. These competencies may include LEEA training, High Risk Work Licences in dogging and rigging, other relevant formal training and practical lifting and rigging experience.
Where work is undertaken in particular site environments, inspectors may also hold additional competencies such as working at heights and confined space training.
This approach allows LB Wire Ropes to match appropriately competent personnel to the lifting equipment and inspection work being performed.
What Happens During a Lifting Equipment Inspection?
The inspection process depends on the type of equipment and the applicable inspection requirements. A lifting equipment inspection may include: equipment identification; visual examination; function checks; assessment of its suitability for continued service; and documentation. Some equipment may be identified for repair or replacement, or additional testing may be required before the equipment is returned to service.
Equipment Identification
Confirming the identity of the equipment, markings and available inspection or asset records.
Visual Examination
Checking for wear, corrosion, deformation, cracking, broken or damaged components and other visible conditions that may affect the equipment.
Functional Inspection
Where applicable, checking the operation of relevant mechanisms and components.
Assessment
Assessing whether the equipment remains suitable for continued service or whether further action is required.
Repair, Replacement or Testing
Equipment requiring attention may be identified for repair, replacement or additional testing before being returned to service.
Documentation
Updating relevant inspection records, equipment identification and asset information.
Inspection Records, Tagging & Certification
LB Wire Ropes provides inspection and testing documentation appropriate to the work undertaken and can assist customers with equipment identification, traceability and asset register management.
Equipment identification and tagging can form part of an effective lifting equipment management system, but tagging is only one component. Appropriate inspection records and equipment traceability are also important, particularly for businesses managing larger lifting equipment inventories.
Inspection records can include:
- Equipment identification
- Inspection history
- Inspection dates
- Inspection results
- Defects identified
- Repairs undertaken
- Testing performed
- Equipment status
- Future inspection requirements
For businesses managing multiple items of lifting equipment, an organised asset register can make ongoing inspection management considerably easier.
What Australian Standards Apply to Lifting Equipment?
There is no single Australian Standard that applies to all lifting equipment. The applicable standards and inspection requirements depend on the type of equipment, its design and application, and the inspection or testing being undertaken. Requirements may also be influenced by manufacturer requirements, workplace health and safety obligations and equipment-specific inspection criteria.
LB Wire Ropes assesses lifting equipment with reference to the requirements relevant to the particular equipment and inspection being undertaken.
If you are uncertain about the inspection or testing requirements for your lifting equipment, our team can help identify the requirements relevant to your equipment and application.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should lifting equipment be inspected?
There is no single inspection interval for all lifting equipment. Inspection frequency depends on the equipment, application, frequency and conditions of use, manufacturer requirements and applicable Australian Standards or other inspection requirements. Equipment used frequently or in harsh operating conditions may require more frequent inspection.
Who can inspect lifting equipment?
Lifting equipment should be inspected by a person competent to inspect the particular equipment involved. Competency may be demonstrated through an appropriate combination of training, qualifications, licences, technical knowledge and practical experience.
Can LB Wire Ropes inspect lifting equipment on-site?
Yes. LB Wire Ropes provides on-site lifting equipment inspection services as well as inspection and testing at our Girraween facility in Western Sydney.
What happens if lifting equipment fails an inspection?
Equipment found to have defects or conditions affecting its suitability for continued service should be appropriately identified and removed from service where required.
Depending on the equipment and defect, LB Wire Ropes can assess whether repair, further testing or replacement is appropriate.
When is proof load testing required?
Proof load testing may be required for certain lifting equipment following manufacture, repair or modification, or where required by an applicable standard, manufacturer requirement or other inspection criteria.
LB Wire Ropes provides in-house proof load testing up to 150 tonnes for suitable lifting equipment.
Does lifting equipment need to be tagged?
Equipment identification and tagging can form part of an effective inspection system, but the appropriate requirements depend on the equipment and applicable inspection criteria.
Tagging should not be considered a substitute for appropriate inspection records and equipment traceability.
