MoreChain slings can be configured to suit a wide range of lifting arrangements and connection requirements.
Common configurations include:
The appropriate configuration depends on the load, lifting points, sling angles, required Working Load Limit and the way the sling will be connected to both the load and lifting equipment.
LB Wire Ropes can manufacture chain slings to specified requirements or assist with determining an appropriate configuration for the application.
Lifting chain and components are available in different strength grades, materials and finishes to suit different lifting requirements and operating environments.
LB Wire Ropes supplies and manufactures chain sling systems in Grade 80, Grade 100 and Grade 120, together with specialised options including Grade 60 G316 stainless steel and hot-dip galvanised Grade 80 chain slings in selected sizes.
The grade influences the strength of the chain and components and can affect the chain size and weight required to achieve a particular Working Load Limit.
Grade 80 has been widely used for lifting chain slings across industrial and materials handling applications for many years.
A broad range of Grade 80 chain, master links, hooks, shortening devices and connecting components is available for the manufacture and maintenance of lifting chain slings.

Grade 100 lifting chain provides increased strength compared with Grade 80 chain of a comparable size, allowing higher Working Load Limits or, in some applications, a smaller and lighter chain sling for a given lifting requirement.
LB Wire Ropes manufactures Grade 100 chain sling assemblies in single and multi-leg configurations using compatible Grade 100 components.
Explore Grade 100 Chain Slings & Fittings ›
Grade 120 lifting chain provides increased strength-to-weight performance compared with lower chain grades and can provide an alternative where a higher-strength chain sling system is required.
LB Wire Ropes manufactures Grade 120 chain sling assemblies in single and multi-leg configurations using compatible Grade 120 chain, fittings and components.
Our technical team can assist with selecting the appropriate chain size, sling configuration and components for the required lifting application.

Grade 60 G316 stainless steel chain slings provide an option for lifting applications where corrosion resistance and environmental conditions are important considerations.
LB Wire Ropes can manufacture Grade 60 stainless steel chain sling assemblies using compatible G316 stainless steel lifting chain and components, with sling configuration and fittings selected to suit the application.
Stainless steel lifting chain can be particularly useful in marine, wastewater, food processing and other corrosive or demanding environments where conventional alloy lifting chain may not be suitable.

Hot-dip galvanised Grade 80 lifting chain and compatible components are available in selected sizes for applications where additional corrosion protection is required.
LB Wire Ropes can manufacture hot-dip galvanised Grade 80 chain sling assemblies using compatible chain and components, with availability dependent on the required chain size and configuration.
Our technical team can assist in determining whether a galvanised Grade 80 or stainless steel chain sling is more appropriate for the operating environment.
LB Wire Ropes manufactures chain sling assemblies to suit individual lifting requirements.
A custom chain sling may incorporate:
Chain sling configuration should be determined by the intended load and lifting arrangement rather than simply selecting a chain diameter.
Our team can assist with component selection and sling configuration where required.
The Working Load Limit of a chain sling depends on more than the strength of the individual chain.
Factors including the number of sling legs, sling angle, configuration and method of use can affect the permissible load of the complete sling assembly.
As the angle between sling legs increases, the force carried by each leg also increases. Sling configuration and angle therefore need to be considered when determining the appropriate chain sling for a lift.
The applicable Working Load Limit should be established for the complete sling configuration and intended method of use.
LB Wire Ropes can assist with selecting and manufacturing a chain sling appropriate to the required lifting arrangement.
There is no single chain sling configuration suitable for every lifting application.
Factors that may need to be considered include:
Where the lifting arrangement is known, providing this information allows our team to assist with determining an appropriate sling configuration.
LB Wire Ropes supplies a broad range of lifting chain, components and fittings for the manufacture, modification and maintenance of chain sling assemblies.
Depending on the chain grade and system, these may include:
Components used within a chain sling need to be compatible with the chain grade, size and intended assembly.
Chain slings are lifting equipment and should be inspected throughout their service life.
Wear, elongation, deformation, corrosion, damaged components and other deterioration can affect the continued suitability of a chain sling.
LB Wire Ropes provides chain sling inspection, repair and testing services from our Western Sydney facility and on-site where appropriate.
Where a sling is repairable, worn or damaged components may be replaced with suitable compatible components before the sling is returned to service, subject to the condition of the assembly and applicable requirements.
Learn more about Lifting Equipment Inspection & Testing ›
Identification is an important part of managing lifting equipment.
Chain sling assemblies should carry appropriate identification allowing relevant information about the sling and its Working Load Limit to be determined.
LB Wire Ropes can provide identification and documentation for chain sling assemblies manufactured and tested by us in accordance with the applicable requirements.
LB Wire Ropes has supplied lifting and rigging equipment to Australian industry since 1962.
Our chain sling capabilities include:
Our combination of product supply, assembly manufacture, inspection, repair and testing allows LB Wire Ropes to support chain slings throughout their working life.
A chain sling is a lifting assembly manufactured from lifting chain and compatible components such as master links, connecting links and hooks. Chain slings may have one or multiple legs and can be configured for different lifting arrangements.
Grade 80, Grade 100 and Grade 120 identify different strength grades of lifting chain and compatible components. Higher-grade chain can provide greater strength for a comparable chain size, potentially allowing a smaller or lighter chain assembly for a particular lifting requirement.
The appropriate grade should be selected as part of the complete sling configuration rather than on grade alone.
AS 3775 covers Grade 80 and Grade 100 chain slings for lifting purposes. LB Wire Ropes manufactures Grade 80 and Grade 100 chain sling assemblies in accordance with the applicable requirements of AS 3775.
Grade 120 chain is not currently specified within AS 3775 and is therefore supplied and manufactured in accordance with the applicable manufacturer’s specifications and requirements.
Yes. Grade 100 lifting chain has a higher strength rating than Grade 80 chain of comparable dimensions. This can provide increased lifting capacity or allow a smaller chain size to be considered for some applications.
The complete sling configuration and applicable Working Load Limit still need to be considered.
Yes. LB Wire Ropes manufactures Grade 120 chain sling assemblies in single and multi-leg configurations using compatible Grade 120 chain, fittings and components. Our team can assist with selecting the appropriate chain size, configuration and components for the lifting application.
Yes. LB Wire Ropes can manufacture Grade 60 G316 stainless steel chain slings and, in selected sizes, hot-dip galvanised Grade 80 chain slings. The appropriate material or finish depends on the operating environment, required Working Load Limit and lifting application.
Yes. LB Wire Ropes manufactures chain sling assemblies in single and multi-leg configurations with chain lengths, master links, shortening devices and end fittings selected to suit the lifting requirement.
Yes, where the chain sling remains suitable for repair. LB Wire Ropes can inspect chain slings and replace suitable worn or damaged components where appropriate.
The condition of the complete sling needs to be assessed before determining whether repair is appropriate.
Yes. Chain slings should be inspected throughout their service life, with the inspection requirements and frequency determined by the equipment, use, operating conditions and applicable requirements.
LB Wire Ropes provides chain sling inspection services both from our Western Sydney facility and on-site where appropriate.
Yes. Providing the load weight, lifting points, proposed sling configuration, required length and details of the lifting application will help our technical team determine an appropriate chain sling arrangement.
